It is never fun to be overheated, nor will you want to remain in an outfit all day into night if you are completely sweaty. (I know, gross, right?)
• Practical: Consider both function and fashion. The ability to wear appropriate comfortable day shoes for touring, like this pair of my favorites, without your dress being overly long, so you do not trip or ache. A dress that makes you feel sexy into the evening without being inappropriate for your daytime activities (such as a church visit).

• Appropriate in most situations (obviously you likely would not want to hike in a dress, but you also would probably need a shower after hiking and to change your clothes anyway.)
